This first book in his series is amazing! I could not put it down-I read all 3 of his in a row as I could not stop reading them. I had to know what was going to happen. Although each book could stand on their own--you are compelled to find out what else happens to the characters. It flows so well from one to the next that you cannot stop at just one! One of the best thriller trilogies I have read. All that I have read since have paled in comparison! Looking forward to The Bishop this fall! Great work and thanks for the thrilling ride!

Too Gruesome

While the writing of this book was very well-done, and while it held my interest, it was a bit too gruesome for my tastes. A flashback story of a cat that was tortured to death was the end of the book for me. I quit reading it and archived it on my nook, only because I don't know how to delete it. Good thing it was free, but even so, I spent my time on it, and ended up feeling horrible for having encountered it at all.

    more from this reviewer

    Not my cup of tea

I got this book on the free deal of the day book list. Glad I did not pay for it or would have been kinda sad. It was ok as a freebie - but did not hold my interest. I really did not want to keep reading it, but did just to get through it. I guess because the charachters kept jumping back and forth from the past to the present, and because there were so many charachters, past and present - it was hard to keep straight who did what in the past. Oh well.....

    Respectfully disagree

I found this book extremely difficult to read. The writing doesn't flow and there are too many attempts at humor or wit that utterly fail. Also find it very distracting to read a book where one of the main characters name is hard/impossible to pronounce. Every time I read "Lien-Hua" it broke up the story for me. Why do authors do this? Very unsatisfactory read. Do no recommend.

    Far out.

Great start. Plot went over the top ln last half of book. Should have stuck with basic story.

    Two stars, tops

My willingmess to suspend my disbelief evaporated about page 125, when our hero, having been contacted by a serial killer who knew all about his stepdaughter (including her name), and being followed by a strange car, tells the FBI he has to have his stepdaughter flown from Colorado to join him in Carolina. I could tell right then where this was going to go, and it would only go there because the author gave him the novel idea to move his stepdaughter right to the serial killer's preferred haunts.

    Okay read.

The beginning had my attention, but then gets overly wordy. Too many characters to keep up with. One plot too many. Could have left out the Jonestown mass suicide. I sped read to get finished. Was disappointed. Unable to pronounce the second main character's name.
