    more from this reviewer

Quick reads more than just fun

I love collections of comic strips. The humor seems to be accumulative. The more you read, the funnier they get. Sometimes you just don't have time to sit and read, so these are fun. You don't read this in place of a novel, they have their own place. These characters are unique. They are a lot like a Vaudeville routine. They have running jokes with a surprise punch line.

This is just fun. Sometimes that's what you need. I do anyway.

    Cast your pearls before Pearls

It is such a relief to have found Pearls. It is the best current comic out, and perhaps the best since Calvin and Hobbes. This collection features the introduction of Angry Bob, who dies for no good reason. The amoral Rat and kindhearted Pig are the best comic duo around, hands down.

    Diamond among the rough

Pearls Before Swine is one of those rare strips that has you rolling your eyes on Monday, coughing a laugh on Wednesday, and stifling a sigh on Sunday. Only crass commercialization (see 'Garfield') could taint this comic.
