This is the second book I read from this author and again he delivers a great story, a dark novel, where the psychological side of each character is very well treated and taken care. The plot is interesting. Mary is a travel agent who lost her two years old baby drowned in a bathtub, and lost her husband, who abandoned her after baby's death. Being treated by a psychiatrist, she falls in love to him and they go together to Venice in what would be a business travel for the doctor. All the situations and places are richly described and the feelings of Mary are deeply explored in this intense and dark novel.

I recommend this book to the permanent library of any reader who likes a well-written book with a dark psychological side. Very entertaining, excellent write style from the author. It took me around 5 hours to read the whole book.

    It haunts me!

With Permanence, Vincent Zandri moves away from the gritty noir that we’re used to and delves deep into the dark story of Mary Kismet. Mary once was normal just like everyone else. She had a job as a travel agent and a family. After the tragic accidental drowning of her toddler, Mary’s world fell apart and now she finds herself alone. In an attempt to ease her tortured soul, she clings to the love affair with her psychiatrist and follows him to Italy. There she finds out he has some demons of his own.

Zandri’s chosen writing style takes you deep into the tortured mind of Mary. We see the world through her eyes where nobody has a name except her husband. It feels like she’s just going through the motions all the while torturing herself with past memories of everything she’s lost. As she follows her psychiatrist to Italy and things become even more complicated, I found myself feeling sorry for her and hoping she would have the strength to move on. However, toward the end, I started wondering if I ever should have felt that way in the first place. Permanence truly is a tragic novel of obsession, dark compulsions and madness. It grabbed me from the first page and haunts me even now.

Thank you to Partners in Crime and Vincent Zandri for the review copy. It in no way influenced my review.

Permanence by Vincent Zandri is a story of a woman, Mary Kismet

Permanence by Vincent Zandri is a story of a woman, Mary Kismet riddled by guilt after the death of her young child. Because of this accident her husband leaves her and seeks the council of a psychiatrist. She doesn't work and is living off the insurance money from her child's accident. She soon becomes involved in a sexual affair with her psychiatrist. Mary's frame of mind is delicate at best and the affair that she is into is probably not the best idea for her. She can not seem to come to grips with the fact that she feels responsible for her child's death. She has pretty much become a recluse and only sees her psychiatrist and goes with him to Italy supposedly for medical conferences but the visit is not what she thinks...
This story has some dark elements and it is not the usual romance novel either. Mr.Zandri's writing is exceptional in that the reader can feel the emotions and the thoughts going through Mary's mind. I would have to say that the ending kind of blew me away, never saw it coming. The writing style kind of reminded me of a Patricia Highsmith book. I read this book in one sitting and enjoyed it. Fans of Vincent Zandri will definitely enjoy this book!!

My review: Permanence was the first book written by Vincent

    My review:

Permanence was the first book written by Vincent Zandri which I read. I enjoyed this novel tremendously. It was well-written, dark, emotional and sad.

The story is written through the point of view of Mary. Mary is a woman who lost her toddler and the reader will see into Mary's tragic situation. the loss of her child has broken Mary inside out and while reading you feel her pain and heartache. Mary fells in love with her psychiatrist, and that relationship is getting obsessive with every page you turn. It feels like Mary is grabbing to the last straw even though it's not. Mary's object of love is not an easy man and he has dark secrets to hide.

I loved Mary even though I did not understand a lot of things about her. I could understand her pain, but there were lot of things which made me question her decisions. She is believable though and Vincent Zandri did an excellent job with telling Mary's story.

It's a very interesting mystery to read and as mentioned I truly enjoyed Vincent Zandri's writing!

    Zandri Does It Again!!! Powerful!!

    My Thoughts and Opinion:
This talented and gifted author has done it again!!! If you follow my blog, you know that I am a huge fan of Vincent Zandri, having read all of his books. In my opinion, he is a genius at his craft, writing novels that will catch you off guard. His writing is extraordinary, so much so, that with each book read, it seems that you are reading books by different authors. His writing style is unprecedented, whereas each stand alone novel, has a different and unique blueprint and delivery. Permanence was a thunderbolt !! I can't stress enough how this masterful author, has the ability, creativity and accomplishment with words to bring the reader on a wild ride with each book he writes. Knowing and being familiar with his work, he still has me shaking my head at the end of each book that I read, due to the talent he possesses. Each book unmatched and unparalleled to his other novels. Brilliant!!!

With Permanence, from the first sentence, his words grabbed me like a vise and I knew there was going to be no escape. With this book, unlike his others, was written in a first person narrative of a very troubled female, Mary. Another surprise, just 2 very profound characters. The prose dark and haunting. Eerie! The author, with his ability and extraordinary use of words, allowed me to create the actual speech pattern of Mary. I imagined it to be as if someone was talking in a drug induced psychotic state. Powerful!! I could also vividly envision the characters and settings with his detailed and descriptive writing style. Ingenious!! I actually felt the emotional state of the main character. Terrifying!!!

Without a doubt, and in my opinion, Permanence has proved that Vincent Zandri is now the #1 Best Selling mystery/suspense author with his capacity and command of story telling. And will continue to be with his remarkable execution and diversity of writing. His creativity and originality is penetrating. Permanence, I feel is his best work yet, at least for now, as we wait for this artist to paint his next masterpiece!!!

    My Rating: Off the chart!!
