    PROMISES, PROMISES

Popular author of 'The Wrinkle Cure' and 'The Perricone Prescription,' Nicholas Perricone, M.D. now offers 'The Perricone Promise' in which he once again touts his program for looking younger, feeling better, and living longer. His premise is pretty much the same save for the addition of the 'Brain-Beauty Connection,' which many have seen on PBS. No stranger to startling announcements, he makes another - that you will see benefits in as little as three days. Through Perricone millions have become familiar with such scientific names as peptides and neuropeptides, which he maintains give new life to skin and hair, aid in heart health, and even decrease the risk of certain forms of cancer. 'Wrinkled, sagging skin is not the inevitable result of growing older,' Dr. Perricone has declared. 'It's a disease, and you can fight it. You can look your best, feel your best, and enjoy beautiful skin and optimum health every day of your life, provided you start right now. And you don't need expensive, invasive plastic surgery to do it.' The host of several well-watched PBS programs, Perricone's credentials are impressive: a degree in Medicine from Michigan State University, an internship in Pediatrics at Yale University School of Medicine, and certification by the American Board of Dermatology. After more than two decades of study Dr. Perricone emphatically declares that 'a high protein, low carbohydrate diet full of salmon, fresh blueberries, cantaloupe and spring water can help slow and even reverse the aging process.' In other words the clock can be turned back. Is there an accompanying product line? Of course. Among his best selling items are 'Amine Complex Face Lift,' a daily facial treatment geared to nourishing the skin, retaining moisture, and ridding the skin of excess oil production; and 'Evening Facial Emollient,' a skin restorative that aids in cellular renewal while promoting an even skin tone and glow. Similar in tone to his previous books, Perricone's latest is pretty straight forward stuff, a bit like a lecture. Lloyd Sherr gives and able, distinct reading.

    Feel Good And Look Good

I use The Perricone Promise because I believe in natural look good, feel young remedies to slow the aging process. The book basically asks you to promise to do three things that you probably do daily anyway: eat, take vitamins and apply a daily skin routine. The recipies at the back of the book make it easy to plan meals and the few obscure ingredients mentioned in other reviews are not that hard to find. It's just a matter of slightly adjusting the that way you shop. (Let's face it -- it would take a lot of extra time in the grocery isle choosing the right foods before the minutes would add up to the six or so weeks of downtime to recover from the knife.) Yes it is costly to follow the supplements/lotions but I can justify the time and money I spend on these three steps in an effort to avoid surgical procedures. If you have already invested in plastic surgery or if you are thinking you'll soon jump on the surgery or Botox bandwagon then this health regime may give you a decade or more to budget for the more invasive 'still lookin' good' solutions. I've read several of the bestselling self-help books so I am confident in recommending The Perricone Promise.

    Wonderful for IBS as well

Wonderful book. Very clear and easy to follow diet guidelines. I highly recomend this book. I have been on this eating plan for over 6 months and have had more than just better skin. It has greatly helped with many symptoms of my IBS and other inflammatory ailments. Small cuts and scrapes heal faster and I don't seem to have as many sinus infections. This diet has seemed to greatly decrease the amount of inflamation in my body. I have tried many diets/plans to help my constant pain and suffering with IBS, this has been the BEST yet and I look better and feel younger. Give it a try!
