A Beautiful Retelling
Waldherr's "Persephone and the Pomegranate" is a lushly-illustrated retelling of the classic Greek myth. Demeter's grief is palpable, as is Persephone's sorrow at being separated from her mother. I especially like the fact that Waldherr does not depict Pluto/Hades as a villain, but as a love-lorn King who has finally found his Queen. Additionally, Persephone grows into her own by the end of the story, and is able to decide her own fate. Highly recommended.
