one of Lively's best

With this new book, Lively comes close to matching Moon Tiger, which still stands at the top of my list of contemporary novels. Lively catches so well here that universal human emotion that begins, 'if only I had known . . . ', an emotion that holds within it the tragic...
With this new book, Lively comes close to matching Moon Tiger, which still stands at the top of my list of contemporary novels. Lively catches so well here that universal human emotion that begins, 'if only I had known . . . ', an emotion that holds within it the tragic beauty of life, and love. A moving novel, as few are.

Good story, but the style is not for everyone

I thought the story was intriguing, enough to keep you interested and turning the pages. I dont think her literary style is for everyone though - in some parts with more than one character the narrative would change without any hint, leaving the reader slightly confused...
I thought the story was intriguing, enough to keep you interested and turning the pages. I dont think her literary style is for everyone though - in some parts with more than one character the narrative would change without any hint, leaving the reader slightly confused as to whose point of view they are in; also the flashbacks to past events were done in the present tense and blended with the rest of text, so in some passages it was difficult to distinguish between past and present events. Other than that it was fairly good, a quick and interesting read.

    OK book

The book's premise sounds intriguing but the author did not deliver. I had no sympathy for any of the characters. I found it difficult to finish the story because I so disliked all of them.

    This book was disappointing.

The jacket cover of the book was intriguing and I couldn't wait to start reading it. However, it did not meet my expectations. The summary was more interesting than the book itself.

a bit of a let down

This book wasn't what I was expecting. I liked the different approach the author used in writing it. Jumping from character to character was interesting because you were able to see the other characters from different view points. I believe it would've been better written if when in one character it was in first person instead of third. All around I think the plot was a good concept but could've been developed better than it was.
