Upset with our courts? Read this enlighting book!
This book on the "pirate" Captain Kidd is very interesting. It is a bit long, but the story kept me going from chapter to chapter waiting for the next event in his and other pirates lives. The injustices of the courts in this time period and cruelties is disgusting! I liked the way the author pointed out the problem of communications then. Recommend this book to any one who wants to know the true story of Captain Kidd and people who made the sea their life. The maps are mostly unreadable due to the tiny letters (I had the paperback version). I was able to get out the old atlas and pinpoint some of the areas.

Excellent book!
I love a history book which informs, but is interesting. This was fascinating and made me want to go learn more about the era in which Kidd lived. The author makes a very convincing case that Kidd was not really a pirate, at least he never intended to be. He was more of a patriot and an honorable man, at least by the standards of the time. I think Captain Kidd would finally be smiling at this clearing of his name.

The first 100 pages jump around a lot in setting up the characters (confusing) but once it gets going it is good -
Interesting read but didn't keep my attention
I always thought of Captain Kidd as a villainous character. However, the author shows us that he was a patriot and businessman who through a series of unfortunate circumstances was labeled a "pirate" by a mutinous crew of characters who he had counted on to help him hunt down pirates. The author gives a good glimpse into the pirate life of the times. It just wasn't an "on the edge of my seat" story. I would recommend it though.
