Hmmmm, this was a really quick and entertaining short read. It revolves around a love- triangle: he loves her but she loves his best friend; and everyone knows how I despise love-triangles, right? But, but, buuuuut, this particular love-triangle worked like a charm. I actually cared for both these guys. Tony is the typical guy best friend found in all YA novels, and Ryan is the typical hot, rich playboy-soon-to-be-boyfriend (with the ever present *eye roll* “lopsided grin”) found in most YA novels, getting exactly what he wants – the oblivious, typical female YA lead (also found in most YA books), Liza. Yep, these are pretty standard characters in a standard, but sweet, love story that doesn’t bring anything new to the table. Yet, I quite liked these characters and by the last page I was unsure which of these two boys I would’ve chosen were I in Liza’s shoes, as they both have a lot going for them in their own unique ways.

Play with Me is an easy and enjoyable read which I recommend as the perfect wind-down before bedtime when you’re looking for something light and feel-good to make you fall asleep with a smile. Great writing, satisfactory ending…I definitely want to read more of this author’s books!

Coming in at just under 200 pages, this was a quick, light read; I finished the book in just a couple of hours. I wish it had been longer! Piper Shelly could have added another hundred pages to really flesh out the characters and give them more background. Everything seemed to happen at warp speed and there was lack of motivation in a few spots. I would have given Play With Me four stars had it delved deeper into the various relationships and provided more than a glimpse into the characters' lives.

I have not read the sequel, so maybe it's addressed later on.

I am concerned about the slut-shaming and fat-shaming that occurs throughout the book. The last thing that young women need is to read about female characters who are disparaging members of their own sex. It's already so pervasive in the media that it reinforces negative stereotypes when it's part of a YA novel.

To women everywhere: it is unfair to label another woman a "bimbo" simply because she is attractive and likes the same guy that you do.

That being said, this was a quick, fun way to spend an evening.
