Great story! Easy read. Believable characters. Written with true emotion that allows you to feel what the character is feeling...hurt, anger, insecurity, determination, happiness. Very well done story.

Good story, but the dialogue is painful

I picked this up at the recommendation of an author I really admire. Now, I'm not sure what I think of her books. The plot is interesting, the story moves, but when the characters start talking, I want to pull their teeth out one by one. It's like they don't even know how they want to speak over the course of a single sentence. At times, the characters use colloquialisms, while in the next breath, they're speaking like characters in a British drama. Plus, it's peppered with phrases like "totally rocked" and "You go girl," but since the point is made that the main character was a high schooler when Kurt Cobain died, it's beyond annoying. I was in the 10th grade when Kurt died, and I think the last time I used the phrase "you go girl" personally was sometime in college when I was hopped up on tequila shots. You know, when it was supposed to have been cute but was actually a little sad.

You know what, that might be a fun drinking game...do a shot every time the characters change dialogue course in the middle of a scene. And with that said, if you need me, I'll be passed out on the floor.

an okay late night or airplane read

I'm not much of a romance reader, except when I can't sleep or when I'm travelling. I've read other books by this author that I enjoyed more, but this one is okay. It moved pretty quickly and kept my interest, but isn't worth re-reading.

    Good Read

kept my interest overall, but I think a little too much time was spent in the book describing Ava's body...got old after a while.

    BORING

I could not get into this book so I gave up. The story is slow to unravel and the characters have no substance.

Not bad...But not EPIC or anything

Not an awful book by any means...I guess I was just expecting a little more???
    Very predictable.

    A must read!

I LOVED it! What a fun read. Only one criticism in that the weight issue was a bit overpowering here, especially for someone who had supposedly conquered this problem years before. Fun stuff, though.

    So so

Not my typical romance novel read. It was a little edgy for me. The leading lady was too miss wonderful, happy to serve all the time. One thing that i really appreciated about her though was that she isnt a tooth pick like so many other heroines are made out to be. Refreshing to have a male charater who likes a woman with a little meat on her bones.

    Loved this book.

Playing Dirty by Susan Andersen is the long awaited story of Ava Spencer. Its well worth the wait.

Ava Spencer has built a well deserved reputation as a top notch concierge. If something needs to get done Ava is your woman. But the down turn in the economy has effected her business. When her former high school crush comes calling with a job for Ava. She is hard pressed to turn the money down. Its going to be harder to get past the public humiliation Cade Gallari caused her back in high school to work with him day in and day out.

Cade Gallari, a documentary film producer, is eager to film the long ago mystery involving the mansion that Ava and her two best friends inherited. He offers Ava the job of being his personal concierge. Cade has apologized to Ava before but he wants to show her that he isn't that misguided boy from high school. He has matured over the years but he has never gotten over his true feelings for Ava.

Ava and Cade relationship changes the more time they spend together. Ava slowly realizes Cade sees the real her not the person she used to be and that is on heady feeling. Plus she understands more about what was going on with him back then as well. But Cade is only in town till the documentary is filmed. Will either of them be willing to take a chance on something wonderful?

Playing Dirty is an all out absolute delight. Its fast paced, witty, charming read. Ava and Cade's relationship sends sparks every time they see each other. Another treat in this book is revisiting with Ava's friends Jane and Poppy. Susan Andersen's books are tops on my list of books to read and re-read.

I love Susan Andersen but... been there, done that

I was so excited when I saw that I had a new Susan Andersen to read. There's really only one book of her's that I've gone back and re-read but she is definitely one that I'm never disappointed with. Playing Dirty was not an exception. In either sense. I wasn't disappointed, really, but I'm not going to be reading it again.
It was all very expected. This is the third book in a series and the last one came out in July of 09. I'm glad she released the third because there were things left hanging that I needed a conclusion for. I did not re-read the first two in the series before I read this one and I'm glad I didn't because it felt very much like the first book. There were certain places that I felt like names, descriptions and jobs had been changed but the plot was the same. Of course there are differences and this is often my complaint with a series but 1. I felt like I had "been there, done that" and 2. I want the fantasy of romance but I want it to be believable and I just have a hard time believing that these three friends really go through such similar experiences on the road to love.

    Worth the wait!

I've been waiting for this book to come out for ages it seems! It's the last one in a trilogy about three friends (Jane, Poppy and Ava). I thought this book was sweet, real and funny. The characters are so great - you are definitely rooting for both of them! Even if you haven't read the first two books in this trilogy, this one is worth reading on its own!
