This book didn't live up to its hype. It is cardboard cut-out, "painting-by-numbers" biography. Maybe this is because the writer, like many newspaper correspondents , appears such a one dimensional writer. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Despite its faults Pope Francis emerges into the light - an extraordinary man of his time. In some ways I am reminded of Zhou En Lai who was so highly regarded by Chinese in Mao's time. He , too, lived an austere life, his time and energy dedicated to the Chinese people.
The final chapter makes the book a worthwhile read and a useful acquisition to a book collection. Publication of Francis's Profession of faith (shortly before he was ordained a Priest) along with excerpts from some of his recent homilies was an inspired decision.
