    Finally I can relax!!

I have been struggling for 11 years with my child who is extremely compulsive and active. Trying constantly to help him to 'control' himself. After reading the first two chapters about a month ago and trying to apply the little I have learned from this book, our dynamics have changed immensly. The power struggle is over, I have let him be in charge finally, and he does a pretty good job of it.

This book should come with a warning label!

Buyer Beware! Raising your child to be independant and capable...will create a independant child! It's not a bad thing...the independance...It's just surprising! You won't believe the things your child will think they are capable of doing...and do it! My three children ages 4 to 8 are independant, capable, and love to learn (in school and home). I was surprised when my first child at 2 1/2 was in the refrigerator pouring his own apple juice! Just be prepared for your children to explore the world around them and keep lots of paper towels on hand! And remember, be slow to anger....your children will make mistakes...think of it as a time to teach not preach! I highly recommend all of Jane Nelson's books and I think you will too!
