I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was simple, unusual and a good love story.

Love between older people is a rarely discussed subject in our culture and I was excited to have found a book that deals with this topic. But it quickly proved to be a huge let down where I could barely bring myself to finish the last 50 pages.

Aside from being overstuffed with excessive details absolutely inconsequential to the plot, I found two major flaws that made this book a boring and unsatisfying read.

First is the characters. They are static and one-dimensional and the reader is afforded no insight into their personalities or motives. All we know about one is that he's big and the other is that she has freckles and the other is that he's in a wheelchair. Those who do go through some kind of personal growth or transformation do so in the most shallow way that simply doesn't ring true. As a consequence, you make no emotional connection with them and simply don't care.
The second problem is the plot itself. It consists of seemingly endless number of repetitive events each more far-fetched than the other For a good chunk of the book it follows the same formula over and over again: main characters find happiness, get in a jam, are saved by good people.

I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for a meaningful read.
