Compelling Reading
This is fascinating reading about true events in history. I had no idea until I read Ron Carters series that the Revolutionary War could hold my interest in a feverish vice. I learned about muskets, Pennsylvania Long Rifles, and canons, ships and their workings, the evolution of our government and so much more in a way all should learn it. I learned about the minds of Generals, Admirals, and found myself applying their thoughts to aspects of my own life. My emotions were deeply stirred from the dreadful conditions of the soldiers who fought hungry, half frozen, and dressed in rags for the priviledges we now enjoy. And they did it without pay. I wanted to run back in time through the pages of the book to feed those poor sickly men, and throw a blanket over their shoulders. Yet there were heartwarming and inspiring moments also. Being a little suspicious of accuracy in the first volume, I consistantly checked with the Library of Congress to see if the dates, characters and events were actual and they were. A wonderful way to become acquainted with the personalities of our forefathers, enter their tents and drop in on their war counsels.
