    A reviewer

I'm not one for writing reviews (infact I think I've only written 2 in my whole life). However, I feel that others should know just how good this book actually is. I've taken many classes in American History (including an AP American History class in HS) and was never introduced to many things discussed in this book. Teaching, I plan on assigning some readings from this book to better enhance my lectures. Its a must read for anyone that values American History. Its also a wonderful book for someone that wishes to know more about our history without getting bogged down with overwhelming amounts of details.

    Beschloss - a mixed reaction

I thought the book was interesting reading but seemed to replough some old ground. The later presidential reviews were the best. Beschloss has a rather irritating habit of writing his books replete with two or three sentence paragraphs. It makes for rather erratic reading, too many pauses , interruptions. But for those not particularly well-read in presidential matters, it is probably enlightening. It's an easy read, so why not?

    more from this reviewer

    Short but interesting biographies.

If you don't have time to read a full biography or are just looking for interesting historical facts to know, this is the book for you. I have read the full biographies of some of these people and the information provided in this book was brief and to the point. If nothing else, it might help you decide just whose biography you might want to read. Excellent.

A good book. Like all the tidbits

I got this book last Monday and have just about finished it. The book is written clearly and provides lots of information and connections between presidents and others. I like the flow of the book even though there are a few parts that are a little dry. However, being a US History teacher, the writing and the information clearly outweigh all other details. I would recommend this book. Already looking forward to the next offering from this very talented writer. His interview on C-Span and NPR are also very good.

leaders standing for courage in a time of need

'presidenial courage' is a very special collection of speechs by presidents who faced some of the worst trials and triumped over them and at the same time with these speechs rallied the american people to restore faith and hope in their country. perhaps the most touching speech in this dynamic publication was president linclon taking a stand agaist slavery he knew it would not be popular with some individuels but it was was something that he knew he had to do and it shows me this leader has real leadership abilities. what needs to be done whean it has to be done.
