Putumayo Presents: Cuba
Cuba wasn't the first Afro-Cuban compilation that Putumayo released in the '90s. Latino! Latino! had focused on Afro-Cuban sounds from artists in locations ranging from Africa to South America, while Afro-Latino examined the parallels between African and Latino artists. On Cuba, Putumayo's main focus is on salseros who were active in Cuba/i>/i>/i>/i>

Bought the Cuba CD a year ago, and play it very, very often...it's soulful yet exotic, and whoever's in the room will start to dance when it's on (seriously--even my mother-in-law from China does a little dance to this!). The sound is Latino and kind of an intimate, earthy Mambo. None of the songs are overproduced, the singing is great, and it has cool instrumentals (guitar, percussion, flute, accordian). It lifts my spirits. Now I want to visit Cuba! Superb quality, from classic Cuban superstars. We have hundreds of CD's, and this is in our top 5, easily. If anyone can recommend similar CD's, please put a note here! Putumayo is very good, and this CD is just super.
If you need upbeat, motivational music to clean your kitchen, this is the tape. You can't help but get in a good mood with this one. Make the dreaded chores so much more bearable.
