The last of the real musicians!
Reading the book I realized that true lasting greatness comes from years of work in a particuliar field learning various styles and different ways of doing things....Quincy Jones endured and succeeded not like today's music stars but through years of toil and struggle....The book was great!

Not Just A Musician's Story- But A Great Human Story
traveling through the life and times of Quincy Jones is indeed a journey. even more so when you take into account the era in which it takes place, the 40's & 50's and continuing through today. not a glossed-over feel good story touting the greatness of Quincy Jones but a literal rollercoaster through poverty & heartache and on to success, fame and ultimately fortune. an inspirational tale that'll leave you feeling like, 'maybe i can make it too'.

A soundtrack for 'Q'
I totally agree with the previous review. And yes, there IS a soundtrack for the book. Quincy Jones produced a 4-CD box set (Rhino Records) that takes you from his first recording, 'Kingfish,' to his latest blends of jazz, pop and hip-hop, including 'Back on the Block.' In-between are Ray Charles, Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, We Are the World, 'Soul Bossa Nova' which became the title theme for Austin Powers, and, of course, Lesley Gore's 'It's My Party.' I read the book in preparation for an onstage interview I conducted with Mr. Jones in November, and, after 330-something pages, wanted more. His is an amazing, awesome story, not only of great music, but of triumph, escaping ghetto life and attaining grand heights in music, film, and the entertainment industry.

Excellent Read -- Three Cheers for Quincy
Q truly revealed his life to us in this beautifully done autobiographical piece. I felt as though he were speaking directly with me, as I walked through the pages of his life. I never felt a dull moment, and in fact stayed up late and arose very early to find what what would happen next. One does not need to be a jazz lover to appreciate Quincy's early days with the many jazz greats. Finally, the chapter on bebop to hip-hop provided me with a greater understanding of the universality of music and how important it is to change with the times. I love you Q, and I thank you for sharing your life, loves, and music with the world. Live long, and seek peace in the arms of the Lord.
