This fast-paced read presents the frightening side of high schools today. The action starts by page five, when an unknown shooter is heard firing shots in the high school quad. Terrified students run screaming in all directions. One small group barricades themselves in the school store.

    C. G. Watson begins her story on Monday, April 6. Through flashbacks, the reader learns about the lives of the students at Muir High School. Everyone gets to tell their story - the Jocks, the Freaks, the Techies, the Drama Queens, the Choirboys, etc. Each group has the potential to have spawned the mystery shooter.

Could the violence be the result of "roid rage," homophobia, a jealous girlfriend or boyfriend, or some nerd sick of teasing and taunts? All aspects of today's teens and their roller coaster ride called high school appear in this book. The characters, though fictional, are frighteningly similar to real life. Readers will recognize their fellow students and will probably shudder to think how close to home this story hits.

QUAD speaks to the problems faced by many teens and offers many opportunities for discussion of current topics. Every library needs a copy, and perhaps every school curriculum needs to adopt it as a learning tool in the classroom.

    Just Awesome!

Calling all highschool students! Quad is a must-read for any highschool student, and it makes sense from beginning to end. Mrs.Watson is my Spanish teacher, and her book is amazing, just like her. Her book kept me guessing from the beginning all the way to the end, as well as someone else who borrowed my copy of the book. You should get a copy yourself! Also, check out her YouTube preview, it's VERY well done.

    A reviewer

Quad is an excellent novel about realistic events that happen all too much in this day and age. It can be difficult to address things such as a student who felt they had no option but to bring a gun to school, but this book does, and does it well. The time C.G. Watson spent as a highschool educator shows in the realistic portrayal of lives and relationships of highschool students. It is deep, powerful and incredibly impacting in its close up look at intolerance in todays schools. It is the kind of book that makes you want to change the world because it helps you begin to understand that there is a problem in need of fixing. you wont be dissapointed.

For everyone who's ever wondered WHY school shootings happen!

Wow! You will NOT be able to put this book down. The characters grab you - they seem so real, and the situation they're in - where there are six of them trapped in the school store and it's one of their friends out there shooting and killing people is INTENSE! And you don't know who - it could be ANY of them. First you think it's the Prep, then the Jock, then the drama queen, then no, it's the gay kid who can't take it anymore, then no - it's the freak guy, no - it has to be the techie! Aarrrhhh! That's what makes it such an amazing book. You don't know until the VERY end!!! Also, with horrible real life events like Virgina Tech's shooting, this book really makes you think about WHY something like this can happen. QUAD is a great story to use as a starting point to get us to talk about what needs to change so these shootings STOP! BUY THIS FOR AN EDGE-OF-YOUR SEAT READ THAT REALLY MAKES YOU THINK!

    Excellent Theme for Teenagers

This was a fairly well-written book by an author who is obviously a teacher and someone who wants to get the message out that teenagers are angst-filled humans. It took a long time for me to get into the story. It bounces around a lot and sometimes reads like a bad soap opera. Tension and suspense are built over and over on a very false foundation. It is really layered on thick. The book has a great message delivered by characters who are totally pigeon-holed cliches. In her efforts to illustrate to the reader that everyone is different, she neglects the fact that MANY people are the same. None of the characters are just regular kids trying to go to school, content to live their lives. Not all teenagers are emotional basketcases. Some of us are very happy. I never really believed the shooter would commit the acts that are committed in the end. Especially against the innocent. The most important thing about this book is that it reminds us to just be tolerant and accepting of the people around us. It should also remind us that we have annoying behaviors and we should stop bugging people trying to force them to be like us. This is a good message book for teenagers but not exactly a good read. I recommend it for content but in the end it is really okay, but not great.
