    Detailed and well plotted

This is the third book in McDonald's Sylph trilogy and like the previous two, exciting and hard to put down. The world building continues to be intricate but understandable and the dialog engaging without getting bogged down by so many characters. This seems to end at a point where further books would be unnecessary but I hope I am wrong. If you're looking for a fantasy series that doesn't pull any punches - this is it.

    Getting better and better

The world L.J. McDonald created in 'The Battle Sylph' keeps expanding in new directions. Battle sylphs were lured from another dimension and trapped in this world, tied to masters they hate. In 'The Battle Sylph', we were introduced to Heyou and Solie who went from a normal young girl to a queen who unwittingly upends the existing social structure and sets herself against tyrants. In 'The Shattered Sylph', we were introduced to Lizzie and Ril and a whole new world of battle sylphs that was even darker. In 'Queen of the Sylphs', we are brought back to Solie's kingdom, which has grown and prospered, and she has matured into her role as the queen. But then dark forces begin to move against them, spreading murder and mayhem, especially when Solie is at her most vulnerable. I loved how the focus shifted from external enemies to one within, teaching these sylphs that danger doesn't always come in outright attacks. Beloved characters die, and I was on the edge of my seat until the last page, not knowing who might be next, and whether they'll successfully foil the evil. Happy to say that all ends well - they are bloodied but stronger - and can't wait for the next installment in the series.

Started off a little slow for me at first but then picked up, don't want to give anything away, some parts were sad for me but overall enjoyed reading and looking forward to the 3rd book.
