An enjoyable read but not Plaidy's best

I enjoy Jean Plaidy's books and found this one enjoyable but it was very difficult to keep straight all the secondary characters. It was good but there have been other books of hers that I liked better.

    More biography than novel

I've always liked Jean Plaidy's work, so this was not what I expected. It read like a biography of Katherine's life. It was very dry, although Katherine's life was pretty interesting.

    Most Highly Recommended

Any of the Plaidy books having to do with the British Royalty is very, very highly recommended! She brings the characters to life and puts you right into the middle of all the action. You will cry, laugh, gasp and go through a whole range of emotions during her page-turners. Hey, just do it. You won't be sorry and you will be all the wiser in the end.

    Interesting

There seems a lot of repition, but the idea of how Catherine of Valois falls in love with Owen is made. Its romance and history that one will enjoy.

    Very interesting.

Good book. Especially interesting as I've traced Owen Tudor in my family tree. Enjoyed the suspense.

    History Lite

I had not read a Jean Plaidy novel in years, and am not sure why I picked up this re-issue. Katherine of Valois, the wife of England's King Henry V, would seem to be an excellent subject for a fictional biography. The story itself is not badly told, but unfortunately Jean Plaidy's dumbed-down writing style gets in the way of enjoyable reading. This might be a good way for the middle-school set to learn history, but an adult should head for the books of Rutherford, Seton, and Lofts for fine historical fiction.
