Moody Publishers sent me this book in exchange for a review.
This little blue book is about the size of a Bible, feels like a Bible since it is imitation leather, and has Bible-thin pages. I love the look of it! The cover was embossed, something unique that I think is worth mentioning- this book is reaaaally pretty.
This book is a year long devotional taken from Nancy Leigh DeMoss' other writings, speeches, radio programs, and newer writings, so you could say that it's a portable "Revive Our Hearts" that is great for preparing your heart for your devotion.
The devotions are really brief. I'm not a fan of Bible studies or word studies because the Bible should be read on it's own without help, but the way Nancy desires The Quiet Place to be is a "heart preparer"- she says:
'This devotional is meant to prepare your heart to be quiet for the Word itself, not a replacement or supplement.'
So Nancy just gives you a thought and a few verses to think on, mostly about worship and prayer, the idea of being still is throughout the whole book.
This is one of the few "review" books I actually ENJOYED and can say that it has no false doctrine or theological errors. It is loving, it is suitable for all ages and denominations (even Catholics might come to Christ through this, the Gospel is in there!). I would highly recommend getting this book if you struggle with focusing or being quiet during your devotions. It really helps you focus and gives you a character quality of God or something similar chew on as you transition to the Word itself.
