Join The Quilter's Color Club Now!

The Quilter's Color Club is a great new addition to my personal library of books about using color in quilts. Color selection for a lot of quilters is a scary step in the process, and many quilters prefer to purchase a ready- made kit, or try to reproduce the exact fabrics from a picture or sample quilt. Working through the exercises in this book will give a novice or even a more experienced quilter added confidence in color selection. For me, the best quote from this book is, "The best- kept color secret is this: It's more about practice than talent." This is so true. Without working through basic color wheel theory, it's easy to see why it is so hard to select colors successfully. However, Christine gives very good advice, "Color combinations are guidelines, not set-in-stone rules. You are free-I even encourage you-to use colors outside the classic formulas." After guiding the quilter through the basics of the color wheel, Christine offers valuable information on light effects, or luminosity, luster, and transparency. This is what makes a quilt glow. This is a unique set of lessons that I have not found in other books about color for quilters. I am anxious to try these lessons and see what I learn. Christine sets out good, easy to follow guidelines for setting up a group to work through the different lessons. But, she also gives advice to the person working on their own. Working in a group however, will provide the quilter with instant feedback that can be a great learning tool itself. I recommend this book to anyone interested in learning and gaining more confidence in their color selection. Along with the lessons, are 12 projects to try out what has been learned in the first three sections of the book. There is also a beautiful gallery of quilts used to illustrate the different lessons in the book and to give inspiration. I encourage you to use this book and work through the lessons. Just think of all the fun you will have while learning, and buying any necessary fabric to round out your stash!

For the sometimes color-challenged quilters such as myself, I want to recommend The Quilter’s Color Club by Christine E. Barnes published by C&T Publishing.

This is a must-have book if you want to take your quilt design to the next level. Yes, there is the color-wheel discussion in depth, but there is so much more. There is discussion and photos covering luster, luminosity, and transparency.

The photography in this book is stunning. You can really see what the author is talking about in beautiful color and design. There are eight different projects as well applying the principles spelled out by Ms. Barnes. We no longer need to worry about our quit looking flat, boring, or the same-old same old quilt.

    I highly recommend this book.
