Solid colors don't have to be boring anymore

This book is true to its name. It provides 20 quilt projects using only textured solid fabrics in four quilt pattern categories: lap, table top, wall and mini quilts. The quilt patterns are a combination of pieced, appliqué or both, all with a more modern touch. If you are a button collector, the author also illustrates several clever ways to use them in the wall hanging and mini quilt patterns. You don't have to keep those neat buttons in a jar anymore. Furthermore, excellent photography helps highlight the clever machine quilting designs used on the tops. The patterns range from easy, like "First Steps," to more difficult, like "Tequila Sunrise," which uses both piecing and appliqué techniques. Another quilt that interested me was "Connect the Dots," an updated rail fence quilt with a contemporary twist. This book may not be a good one for the rank beginner. It gives very little basic quilt sewing instructions, but does have some applique information.
