I think my children saw this on Reading Rainbow in the early '80

I think my children saw this on Reading Rainbow in the early '80s and we loved it... Now I have been reading it to my 2 year old granddaughter. I know that she will have many years of enjoying this book, just as her mother did. The illustrations in  the lower right corner shows how rain makes applesauce... But you get carried away looking at all the fine detail on the whole page. And now my daughter remembers why I always say, "You're just talking silly talk" to her daughter. A classic to hand down to many generations.

I used to read this aloud to visiting school classes when I was

I used to read this aloud to visiting school classes when I was a children's librarian in New York City. They loved  it and would chant the last line of each page with me. It is a book that defies description.  Fantastic illustrations in beautiful colors, dream- like images conjured up by brief text and pictures, flights of fancy that are oddly comforting - I have bought a copy for myself . I think  that if you like paintings by Marc Chagall, you would like this, though there is little similarity. Whatever it is, it is a visually  beautiful book and children respond to its beauty.

I stole this book from the library!!

When I was little I borrowed this book from our public library. I loved it so much that I stuck it in my bookshelf with all my books so I wouldn't have to take it back. A few weeks went by and the library called my parents (at 4 I never thought they would miss one little book) and I had to return the book and pay the fine out of my piggy bank.<BR/>My Grandma recognized my devistation and bought me my very own copy. Over 20 years later it is still my FAVORITE book. I purchased a copy to read to my children so I don't have to share my "original"!

    All Time Favorite

As a child, my aunt who is now a children's librarian used to read this book to me with great animation. After I went home,I would walk around with my mom saying 'Oh you're just talking silly talk! I paid well over cover price recently to buy an original publication. I am now 40 and can see all kinds of new things in the illustrations that I never noticed before. I highly recommend this book for an uplift!

    Amazing

This was the greatest book I have ever laid eyes on. I first read it for a childrens lit class, and I can't wait until my baby is old enough to enjoy it. The detail of Bileck's illustrations is outstanding. Every time I look at it, I see something new. Opening this book is like stepping into a different world.

    Priceless Memories

This book was my absolute favorite childhood story! I used to check it out from my school library when I was in elementary school at least 3 times/week! It's the most magical mystical book I have ever read!! Even now, being an adult, it brings me back to those wonderful childhood memories, still enjoying the colorful delightful nonsense in my adulthood! It will take you back to the innocence and silliness of youth! I love this story and illustrations!
