the most beautiful book i have ever seen and given to a child.

the most beautiful book i have ever seen and given to a child.  it says here it was originally published in 1978 but i have a distinct memory of it being published earlier in the 70s.
my kid still remembers this book and she is now 20.  adults will love it as well.

    Highly recommended

If you buy only one book for your children or grandchildren, this is the one. I have been reading this aloud to mine for more than ten years. Even though they know it by heart at this point, they still ask for it. The illustrations are magical. I often catch them (2 boys and 2 girls) curled up with this book, just looking at it. I confess, I do it too! Buy this book.

    Amazing!

This is the first book I bought for my child. A friend recommended it and when I picked it up I was amazed at the intricate details and story line.

Gorgeous throughout and a lasting book for a child's mind...

This book was around the house when I was a kid, maybe 8 or so. I LOVED it, I'd take it out and look at it all the time. The illustrations are vibrant, colorful, realistic...and the lesson is a great one of greed and it's parishment against beauty. For those kids that show a sign of art in their future, this is a MUST, they will be captivated by what the illustrator accomplished with his paints. Some kids may be alarmed by the goblins (I found them a little scary), so it may be good for day time reading. A great book!

By far the most beautifully illustrated book

The artwork in this book is, simply put, spellbinding. It was my favorite book when I was little and I still have a copy out on my coffee table. They dont make books like this.

    A childhood memory kept alive!

I think that this book is one of the best children's book because it helps stimulate the imagination of all. I suggest this book to any child who loves bright colors and a 'happily ever after' with a twist. My aunt introduced this book to me when I was young, and I've had a love for it ever since.

    Keeping it in the Family!!!

I'm an Aunt/Great Aunt of 16. I first gave this book to some of the 'first' nieces and nephews. They always wanted me to read it to them. I also gave it to my bestfriend in high school. I lost my original one but luckily, 18 years later I found it reprinted after searching for so long. I have now given several copies to the 'new' genreation of nieces and nephews. Oh yeah, one nephew still has the book !!!
