I teach middle school. This book was sent by our school system to our school's library. The buyer for our system saw "Princess Mia" and made a logical, albeit vastly incorrect, leap that Cabot's book would be a great addition based on the success and readability of the Princess Diaries. NOTHING could be further from the truth. As an adult, the book is just fine for my eyes. Everything that has been said in previous reviews about characterization and adventure and strong female heroine and romance is absolutely true. BUT THIS IS NOT A BOOK FOR YOUNG ADULTS. Contrary to the marketing that misleads the reader into believing this is a natural extension of the Princess Mia ethos, this book contains graphic sexual detail and innuendo. This book should be in the adult Romance section of any bookstore and never, ever confused with a book that would be appropriate for the masses of girls who fell in love with Princess Mia (at least until they pass an acceptable age---and 13 and 14 ain't it). I was surprised because the book didn't really need the gratuitous, graphic sex to be a good read...the story could stand on its own without it. If you pick up this book thinking it will have the same mildly flirtatious and innocently romantic tone as the Princess Diaries series, you will be shocked and disappointed to find that Princess of Genovia Mia Thermopolis has quite the explicit imagination, as she is credited with the authoring of this book. I applaud that the proceeds go to a worthy cause, but at the same time please be aware this is a book for ADULT AUDIENCES...or at least the more mature, late teens...definitely not your Disney Princess!

Finally the book Mia has been working on!

Okay so the beginning had some major promise. The first half was a page turner. What's going to happen? Will they get together or not? A page turner that made me stay up way longer than I should have been awake. Then I passed that part and was kind of left deflated. I love these main characters but feel that the end was missing something. Like why was Finn acting the way she was? Hugo never asked her that. The reader knew why she was acting that way but he never did. I wanted answers and there were none. That's not to say that this wasn't a great romance novel because it was. There was no mushy ending where everything is revealed in the last page or so, which is the only thing I hate about romance novels. But I wanted more. Not sure what that more could have been but all I knwo is I wanted it.

    Great but a bit predictable

Finnula Crais is a female Robin Hood, known as Fair Finn. She helps feed the poor (by stealing from the rich). She is a skilled archer. If that isn't enough to cause the town to gossip, she also wears men's clothes. gasp The horror! When Finnula's unwed sister becomes pregnant, Finnula is forced to help. Finnula goes in search of a rich man to take hostage to pay for her sister's dowry. She captures Hugo, a knight on his way home from the Crusades. An amused Hug allows himself to be captured. Their journey back is filled with tension (will they or won't they)-it is intense. I don't want to give anything away but that is only the first half of the book. The second half is drenched in mystery, and romance too.
Finnula and Hugo were great characters. Finnula is a redhead tomboy who won't let anyone push her around. Hugo, on the other hand, is arrogant and bossy. They are constantly arguing. Most of it is playful though. He wants her to wear dresses while she insists on wearing men's clothes. Underneath all their arguing, they really love each other. The great thing about these characters is that neither changed who they were for the other, they learned to compromise. They both kept their values, which I think makes them work well together-especially for the story. It's the main cause of their constant head butting.
Ransom My Heart is a great novel filled with romance (lots of it) and a bit of mystery. The only problem was that it was a bit predictable. Having said that though, I really enjoyed reading it. There were some comical moments throughout. An all together easy read for adults.
    Warning: some sex scenes.
