Chekhov revealed -- and loved.
Janet Malcolm blends Chekhov's writing, her own journey to Russia, his life and, finally, other writing about Chekhov to render a wonderful, insightful appreciation. It is impossible not to love Chekhov once having read him. Ms. Malcolm shares this love, treats familiar terrain, yet makes him new. I appreciated particularly her interweaving of Chekhov's stories and his life. Her book drove me to reread the stories and the plays, with great satisfaction. Was this review helpful?
