A Unique Look at Reagan's Early Career

After reading numerous books on Reagan's political career and his diaries, I was excited to read this new presentation of his time spent in Hollywood. It's a time of his life often ignored or glossed-over by many biographers. Marc Eliot obviously did a lot of research in preparing this book, and spent time with people who knew Reagan during the 1930's - 1950's. He presents a side of Reagan which I suspect most people are not at all familiar with: his intense loyalty to his parents, an incredible work ethic developed early in life and continued through his years in movie-making and later into politics, and especially his apparent wild side chasing the ladies. What I also found interesting was the in-depth discussion of his involvement in the development of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and his 10 years (over 2 periods) as President of SAG. He was instrumental not only in the union organization but in the development and success of many of the positive aspects of that union. Whether a follower of Reagan's later political career or a Reagan critic, you are likely to find this book compelling and revealing.

    Good Listen for the Car

I enjoyed listening for this book. For some reason I am fasinated by Ronald Reagan. This was enlightening about his early years in Illinois, Iowa & California and his start in radio, movies, television and his relationships with women.
