MUCH better than the editorial review makes it out to be!
To me, this is the most essential TVZ album available. It was actually the first one I ever bought, and to this day, remains my favorite. Some "essential" songs may not be here, but from start to finish, it is his best work. The sparse arrangements are how Townes' songs ought to be. He sang in a slightly lower register, but unlike the live albums released from his last few tours, his voice was warm and inviting, even in the saddest of songs.

Someone once asked him why his songs were so sad. He said, "They're not sad, they're hopeless." But when listening to this, they are anything but: they make you appreciate the good side of humanity. Was this review helpful?
