Spurred Me to Read More John D. MacDonald
'The Red Hot Typewriter' is a good biography that takes its subject seriously. (Since Barnes and Noble has not yet seen fit to include a description of this book, please let me inform you that 'The Red Hot Typewriter' is a biography of fiction writer John D. MacDonald, the creator of the Travis McGee series.)
Reading the story-behind-the-story of some of the watershed books in the MacDonald canon has inspired to make a beeline to the nearest library and bookstore to reread (and read for the first time) MacDonald's 'good old stuff.'
A query to MacDonald's publishers: How long must we Rocket eBook addicts wait until JDM's work is published in eBook format?
Some criticism: Many of the excerpts of letters and correspondence seem too long. It would have been better if they had been pared down, or--in some cases--eliminated.
Also, the amount of typos in the eBook edition of 'The Red Hot Typewriter' is appalling. Shame on St. Martin's for sloppy copy editing.
