    Becoming your best self

Matthew Kelly was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1973. He began speaking and writing in his late teens while he was attending business school. Today he is an internationally acclaimed speaker, best-selling author, and business consultant. His books have been published in twenty-five languages, and more than four million people have attended his presentations in 50+ countries. Kelly is also a partner in a Chicago-based management consulting firm. In his books and in his presentations to business organizations, students, and parish groups, he invites his audiences to become the best version of themselves. In Rediscover Advent, Kelly sets out to raise morale among Catholics, and engage those who are disengaged. His vehicle is the Lectionary readings for Advent accompanied by personal reflections, meditation questions, and prayer. The theme for Wednesday in the second week of advent, for example, is based on Matthew 11:28-30 on being humble and gentle of heart..."For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." Kelly reflects on discipline as a way to discover the true self. He points out that discipline is dwindling in modern culture; as a result, we are ailing spiritually. Discipline is the only way we discover the purpose for which God places us on earth. The meditation for this day asks us to consider burdens we need to turn over to Jesus and our willingness to embrace his yoke through the practice of discipline. The book is suitable for individuals and faith-sharing groups.

    Highly recommend this book

The daily readings are concise and thought provoking. I found time in a busy time of year to read and reflect. It kept me focused on the reason for the season, Jesus! Treat yourself to this and have it ready for next year!
