I read it last night all in one sitting I didn't want to put it down. I don't understand why there was such a dislike of this book. I thought it was a very charming yet dramatic romance. I really enjoyed reading it and would probably read it again.
People criticized this book, but then loved I think it was flame and the flower where the hero rapes the heroine at the beginning of the book. I don't understand this. I haven't read that book so maybe it gets better.
I have decided no matter what we read there are going to be many varying opinions we like what we like or what we don't like. Read it make your own decision.

I adore Woodiwiss, Loved Shanna, Wolf and the Dove, etc. But this book was AWFUL! EVERYTHING had to be justified to the reader again and again as though even she knew it was unbelievable. The entire time I was reading I could not find a conflict between the main characters. In fact, their repetitive explanations of the reasons they were wary of getting together just made them seem melodramatic. This book got on my nerves. And Roger Elton. We are constantly informed of what a wit Adriana has and how all of the men in town are after her, was she really so stupid about Roger? It seems like should have had the intelligence or even enough experience to think his stalkerish behavior was just a mite out of ordinary. If anyone raced me up the stairs to my friend's house after I had told him to bugger off I would call the police. Even the plot twists were not so much twists as sharp but highly predictable about faces. Read anything else by her.

    A Little Disappointing

Although the book was overall pretty good, the Woodiwiss magic was missing. I just didn't connect with this book like her other books. The characters were kind of flat and there was a lot of editing errors. Hopefully, she will come out with another book to win her fans back!

    A Kathleen Woodiwiss fan

I agree with most of the other reviewers... this book is not to the standard of the writings of Kathleen's former books. There is little depth to these characters and the dialogue is rather shallow. I am disappointed in this novel, but it's an okay read. KATHLEEN... PLEASE go back to the writing styles of your previous novels... 'Shanna', 'Ashes in the Wind', 'The Elusive Flame', etc. I keep check of the BN website to see if you have a new novel coming out!

Not her best book by far

I'm a huge fan of Kathleen Woodiwiss, but this has been a disappointing read. This does not seem her style of writing, and I had to wonder if it's the work of a 'ghost writer'. The same scene is revisted again and again, but nothing much else goes on. Slow reading!

    The jewel beneath

Kathleen E. Woodwiss is a great author, however, I was a little impatient with Adriana. I thought her character was weak and there was little to be admired about her. Although claiming to be cool and distantly removed from Colton--that her heart is safe--Adriana fell fast for him; I didn't think her character was as strong as she proclaimed to be and I found that to be annoying. However, it is a deserving book (despite my rantings) and I would recommend it to all people.
