    Timeless Classic

This book was once on the Commandant's Reading list and recommended reading for all Marines. Don't know why it was removed: its accounts of courage and sacrifice in Vietnam serve as powerful examples for those fighting today. Servicemembers today would do well to inquire into the life and experience of Hodgins in this book. For that matter, the rest of America would do well to read it, too.

We hear a lot of lip service given to duty and heroism today. If you need a reminder of what those virtues really mean, look no farther than this book.

Highly Recommended-Reconnaissance Marines at war in Vietnam.

Reluctant Warrior is a gripping, first-hand account of Marine Lieutenant Michael Hodgins' Vietnam war odyssey. As a Platoon Leader in the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, Mike Hodgins and his recon Marines served as the the eyes and ears of the illustrious 1st Marine Division. 1st Recon's small teams relentlessly went into the enemy's "back yard", the mountainous jungle surrounding Da Nang, to find and engage the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army.

Mike Hodgins' compelling oral history captures the character, courage and esprit of Reluctant Warrior's young Marines and Corpsmen and provides the reader with timeless lessons in small unit leadership, duty and moral courage.

For this Vietnam veteran and reconnaissance Marine, Reluctant Warrior vividly and accurately portrays the war that I knew.

    A must read!

As an infantry and reconnaissance officer this book was a must read for everyone in our community. Hodgins does an incredible job of blending rich history, tactical lessons learned and excitement. It's a must read for anyone interested in history, the Vietnam experience, leadership or just a great read...

I highly recommend the Reluctant Warrior to everyone.

    OOORAH Marine

I am a 16 year old teenager who's grandfather fought with the 11th armored division in WWII. He was the one who got me intersted with war and military stories. I juts bought this book a couple of weeks ago and just couldn't put it down. It is a true story that captures the essence of the 1st Recon Batt in Vietnam. If your looking for an action packed, gut wrenching detail, then this is the book for you. OOORAH!

the best of the best and still going!

im a 15 year old imature kid who gets f's in school and hates reading even mags! till i had to pick a book for a report in school i decided to get a war novel becuase i like military movies. that was the time i randomley selected relluctant warriors off the shelf and took it home. this book made me love to read via its graphicly honest detail and awsome gory action that made me wish mike hodgins was a real author. he put me in the middle of the action and will sanction you too if you read this book. though it had lots of profanity and military abriviations i still understood the noval and began to develop lots of emotions.
