An important book and a call to action

For anyone who finds it odd that most of today's news media consists of right wing media celebrities complaining about how liberal the media is, I can't recommend 'The Republican Noise Machine' highly enough. Mr. Brock offers a devastating critique of the Right's strategy to subvert journalism and manipulate the press to its own political ends. This puts the final nail in the coffin of the myth of the liberal media. Be warned, though: 'The Republican Noise Machine' will definitely raise your blood pressure.

Let Those Who Have Eyes -- SEE!

I pray that everybody reads this book. David Brock exposes the 30-year conspiracy to mislead Americans. And he does it with full documentation and footnotes. Brock quotes a consultant at the Fox News Channel as saying, 'People don't really want to be informed. They want the illusion of being informed.' I recommended this book to a Colorado teacher recently and was stunned when she said that she would not read it because a talk show host said it was full of lies. That, in a nutshell, is the problem. There are too many people in this country that think they know what is going on.

    Foreshadowing 2004

When I first read this book I had my doubts but not now. After observing the current 'swift boat' story, this book is like reading a road map.

    good piece of work

More than a sequel to Brock's 'Blinded by the Right', this book documents the extent of power built up by 'conservative' pundits and radio/TV personalities, following the abandonment of the FCC's Fairness Doctrine, and the consolidation of tightly-controlled media empires built around political dogmas. The damage to American democracy has been enormous: even a casual review of overseas papers shows how much our most respected institutions have been intimidated in public discussion. A few papers, notably the New York Times, are starting to explore the issue publicly, and mainstream conservatives have come to realize just how extremist the ultra-right really is. Brock is creating a useful position as a right-wing media monitor. With luck he may yet persuade some of its members to lose the self-pitying attitude and take on some of the basic obligations of journalistic integrity.

    Excellent book

Daivd Brock does us a great service in bringing to light the New Right like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity etc who are basically fanatics.

    The truth about our media

I only wish Americans would pull themselves away from the evening news and read this book.
