    Hard to follow

This story may have started w/ a good premise but is very hard to follow, is unrealistic and the characters have no depth. The author switches constantly between past and present tense. Like a previous reviewer, I wanted to give up in the first 50-75 pages, but I'm a stickler for finishing what I started. It was not worth it unfortunately.

I made it 78 rather painful pages into 419 and couldn't take any

I made it 78 rather painful pages into 419 and couldn't take any more.

I'm afraid it totally failed to get my attention in any way other than annoyance. The story seems to presume that you know and understand aspects that aren't explained - I know, I didn't read to the end so how do I know they weren't explained? Maybe they are later on but being almost a quarter of the way into the book and just hoping for some clarifications was too much of a waste of time already. If the author does make things clearer later on in the story then it's certainly too late for me. I have an enormous amount of respect for anyone who can write a book and always give each story I read a fighting chance to be an interesting read; I don't throw in the towel very often, but this was just not worth any more time.

Add some of the grammar issues to the confusing, convoluted story and I'm out. Why are simple things like the distinction between later and latter so confusing?

Not a book I'd recommend at all.
