    Superb

When i first read Hitchhikers Guide, i only read it because i wanted to see how the book compared to the excellent movie, i am not typically into most fantasy/science fiction books or movies, but Hitchikers Guide was captivating. Douglas Adams writes in such an entertaining way that anyone could find his books entertaining. The 2nd books starts right where the 1st left off, Arthur, Ford, Trllian, and Zaphod Beeblebrox, the president of the universe who had stolen the very ship that they were in and was surrounded by Vogons. Throughout their journey they are shrunken, tortured(well kind of, Zapod walked into a Total Perspecive Vertex, a device that shows you how infinatly small you are compared to the universe), nearly driven into a star, and much more.
I really enjoy the way douglas adams writes and am very eager to read the rest of these books.

Nearly as good as the first one

Hitchhiker's Guide is the best of the series, but this is a close second. Highlights include your dinner recommending what part of itself should be eaten, and of course, Marvin.

    Hilarious

I didn't think anything could top The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but this came pretty darn close. If you liked the first book, you like this too.

Review of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

I have absolutely nothing profound to say about this book. I don't even know why I liked it as much as I did (perhaps even more than Hitchhiker's Guide). I will tell you that I snorted, giggled, chortled, laughed and cried my way through it.

Thank goodness these are short books though - seriously. The weird factor in them gets a tad overwhelming at times and I have to put the book down and go do something else before my mind explodes.

And I swear I will never look at a steak the same way again.

I think, by far, my favorite character is Marvin. There is a scene in this novel where he faces off against a more powerful robot and it had me laughing so hard (in Starbucks of all places!) that I had tears rolling down my cheeks. For some reason the image, the voices - everything came to life in my imagination during that one scene and it was almost too much to handle. And yes, I do have a strange sense of humor.

Really fun book and I'm looking forward to the next.. but first I think I'll take a little break. Too much Adams and I'm afraid I'll spend the next week speaking to my table to see if I get a reaction from it.

    I Also Recommend:

    a great sequel

The restaurant at the end of the universe is a science fiction book by Douglas Adams. It is a good book because it is very detailed. It is set in the restaurant at the end of the universe, the Milky Way galaxy, frogstar 2, and Britain.
The major conflict is Arthur Dent trying to find the question to the answer of life the universe and everything which is 42. First they are teleported to a spaceship. Next they arrive at earth. Finally they find the question while teaching cavemen to read.
This book is written in the third person. I recommend this book for people who like sci-fi and British comedy.

    I Also Recommend:

    Best Douglas Adams

Even better than, Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, this book takes the cake. Quite possibly the most hilarious book I ever read...it truly captures Douglas Adam's amazing style of satire and dark humor. Very good.

The man was simply a miracle worker. No matter how bad of a day I am having I can pick up his work and just start laughing.

    A great new edition

This book is possibly one of the funniest books ever written by Douglas Adams. It never ceases to amaze me how Douglas Adams can come up with such zany adventures! This book takes off from where the first one left, with Arthur Dent trying to survive, while many people are trying to find the answer to the creation of the universe, which will require the removal of his brain. That would not be a good outcome for him. This book also deals with many different species and how Douglas Adams perceives them. The many different aliens that are expressed in this book all have distinct personalities. It is also funny how some species are extremely strange. It is very funny to read. Once again, Douglas Adams has made another book that is worthwhile to read. I recommend this book, and any other book in the series, to anyone who enjoys space books.

A whole new look at the Universe

I highly recommend, The restaurant at the end of the universe to anyone who likes a good funny adventure. This is a one of a kind book that will keep you laughing til the cows come home. The way Douglas adams looks at the universe is unique and hilarious. IT is the second of a series of five books and you should probably read the first one before you pick up this one. Since the second book still has the qust for the ultimate question to the meaning of life 42, but adds on the new problem of finding the ruler of the universe. They of course run into hilarious people places and various lifeforms from other planets. I can't really tell you about the book because it would spoil it for you. You have to read it the way he writes it. What will Douglass Adams come up with next. I loved this book and can't wait to read the next one.

    LOL DOUGLAS DID IT AGAIN!

This book is confusing, funny, and often doesn't make sense. So if you don't have high understanding skill, don't read this book, but to people who have high understanding skill, hooray!

    Good Eatin'

'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe' is with out a doubt a one-of-a-kind book. The whole idea of having a restaurant warp back and forth between when the universe is destroyed and an hour before shows the type of imagination the Douglas Adams has. What I liked most about this book is that every page seems to hold a new obstacle for Arthur Dent to overcome. Douglas' humor no doubt makes this out-of-this-world storyline more interesting. My favorite character has to be Marvin the robot. Although depressing and unhappy, Marvin adds an interesting twist in all of Douglas' many plots. What makes me like him so much is that he is so smart that he can destroy a ten-ton robotic tank without having to fight him (you have to read the book to find out how). Ultimately, I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes science fiction books (and even to those who can't stand them). It is a humorous page-turner that will keep you up all night reading it (that's what happened to me!)

Restaurant at the End of the Universe 2

Excellent sequel and the characters are hilarious then ever, especially Marvin, the paranoid andriod (one of my favorite characters) and Zaphod Beeblebrox.

    So weird and confusing!!!!!

I thought that the book was awfully confusing!! The whole book should have been about Zaphod Beeblebrox and marvin only. THEIR adventures were more exciting.

Move Aside R2D2, Here Come Marvin!!!

I've borrowed this book from the library 3 times in 2 years already. I'm buying it this time. Wow, this book has so much satires that economists, environmentalists, geophysicists, etc.can all relate at some points. Very clever writing in disguise of a comical book. Give me new thoughts on Life, Universe, and Everything. I recommend you buy two copies, one for you, and one for your friend!! You will not want to lend your copy.
