I have had this book for several years and have found it extremely helpful when my gut problems flair up. The recipe for the Brasco Broth is the best. I just sent a copy to a friend who is having digestive problems.

Save Your Trip to the Bookstore

I really had high hopes for this book. Afterall, it advises some major tenents of good health: organic and whole foods, nutrient dense food preparation methods, and an informative section on supplements (from bee pollen to probiotics). Nevertheless, I was seriously disappointed with the mixed advice, confusing organization of the chapters/instructions, and seemingly unshameful promotion of Rubin's supplement products company 'Garden of Life'. For instance, the book's Brasco broth recipe includes apple cider vinegar, but the website says to avoid it (under the Digestive health section). Then, the book recommends taking the antifungal formula for two weeks combined with the probiotic and the goat's yogurt. However, the website's antifungal formula strongly recommends against using the probiotic and antifungal formula together. Then, the chapters are illogically organized. For example, Chapter 10 with the specific disorders advice comes after Chapter 9, the Guts and Glory program. So, you concentrate on the core program and mentally prepare yourself to follow it, then you find out the next chapter later you have to change all of that, add or subtract a few supplements, or change the duration of one or more of the phases. If this confusion isn't enough to drive you insane and make healing that much more confusing, the third supplement recommendation will. FYI is suggested as the anti-inflammatory arm of the program, but on the website, this supplement is used for joints and connective tissues and NO WHERE does it say it's for anti-inflammatory purposes. I even called customer service to ask how it would work for the digestive program, and she told me it's mostly for joints and connective tissues. So, there you have it. Jordin Rubin and Joseph Brasco's 'Restoring Your Digestive Health' is a double-speaking, bait-and-switch excuse for a health improvement guide. The cocktail of supplements recommended is confusing and baseless, and the whole process of decoding the program is a waste of time, money, and energy. Pass this one by folks.

A Great Educational Guide to Gut Health

I originally read this book a few years ago and I felt it did a great job in educating the reader about appropriate ways to restore and maintain optimal digestive health. It is very easy to understand and provides the reader with empowering knowledge about probiotics and many other factors that promote gut health. If you follow the tenets outlined in Rubin's work, you'll never have another digestive disturbance again! This is very significant seeing as 80% of all Americans experience digestive trouble regularly. - Dr. Matthew J. Loop (Author of 'Cracking the Cancer Code')
