the adhesive to pull the Palladium universe together

The great thing I find about Rifts, is that you can import any other Palladium system into it, and actually be a 'nearly'seamless transition. Take Robotech, or Super Heroes Unlimited, or any other Palladium series, and you'll be able to use the same rules and skills in Rifts. A classic pick for any RPG fan.

    Good, but lacking

The Rifts series are extremely imaginitive in their own right, however I cannot help but being a overwhelmed when it comes to certain aspects of the game. Some elements of the game need a lot of tweaking and editing to make it more realistic and enjoyable for PCs. For instance, most types power armor comes standard with every type of optical imaging imaginable, making sneaking or suprise attacks vitually impossible. Robots would not need optical systems, only sensory systems because they do not process visual information the same way humans do...And running 90 mph?? Come on! A machine capable of punding out that much torque for running would only bury itself in a hole if it tried. Same thing for power armor. Having everything powered by nuclear power is a good idea, but very unrealistic. What happens when the nuclear supply is penetrated when the item is destroyed? Radioactive meltdown would occur every time something blew up. How does the nuclear power source get cooled? A cooling system is usually 10 times or larger than the power source itself! How does the supply get replenished? Where does the old supply go? Just toss the nuclear waste onto the ground? Radio transmissions and radar are lacking greatly. Radios need transformers and amplifiers to transmit more than a few miles, and would weight more and be larger than the power armor that posesses it. Radar range depends on the power, frequency and size of the dish. None of these elements can be installed into a small machine such as a robot or even power armor. Sure one can use the excuse that this is the future where technology is much more advanced than ours, but radio and radar have reached their peaks in technological advancement. The megadamage system is rediculous and unrealistic. Combat against 20 robots with MD weapons becomes impossible (especially if they have lazer targeting and are 100% guaranteed to hit their target!). If someone were to decide to play a magic OCC player character, they would find that they are just about useless in a group of adventurers. Magic spells and attacks are feeble at best. Robots and people in power armor are not affected by magic. Psionics are useless. The only good things about this game are the complex storyline, history, and technology. If magic and psionics were imporoved (greatly), if technology wasn't over exagerated, if megadamage was eliminated from this game, or if the combat system was faster and easier to use, I would reccomend it.
