I had first heard of J.A. Jance’s J.P. Beaumont series way before I became a reviewer, but it wasn’t till now that I actually got to check it out. When William Morrow sent me the review request for this novella, at first I was a little skeptical. I was afraid that it was too far into the series for me to review it! Upon reading the synopsis, I saw that this was actually about Beaumont’s days as a rookie and so I agreed and was blown away.

J.A. Jance is AMAZING! Ring in the Dead is a perfect place to start for anyone looking to check out the series. I felt an instant emotional connection with the characters, which is a very important thing for me. It wasn’t just a detective solving a case, it was J.P. Beaumont, a person who is trying to solve a case that his partner could take the fall for. I devoured this book, read the 20 page preview of Second Watch and still couldn’t get enough, so I started Until Proven Guilty. Jance has a new fan! I intend to read all of her books now. Not many authors pull me in so deep that I tear through their books but J.A. Jance is one of them and now I know she deserved every bit of the praise I heard as well as my own. If you’re considering reading these, I encourage you do it! You won’t be disappointed. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.

100 pages, two chapters. This must be a preview of a book  Why charge for a preview. If it is is a whole book I will move on to a new read.

45 pages with an excerpt of next book at the end

This short story cost .99 and was only 45 pages long. There were several murders and some violence, all were very tame. This was a very clean book, with no other adult themes. It was about Beau's first case as a homicide detective. I have liked all of J.A. Jance's books, except for the newest one, showcasing Anna Pigeon, it was pretty good, just not the excellance I have come to expect. This short story is pefectly edited. I enjoyed it and wished it was longer. The reason I did not give it five stars is because of its length. I think if I have to pay for a book, I should get more than a ten minute read. There is an excerpt at the end, which is also about 45 pages, but it does not tell much and is a cliff hanger in order to get people to pay the $10.00 fee for it.

    Enjoyable

Nice little pre-quel to the Beaumont series. Gives a glimpse of the younger Beaumont. Enjoyed it.

    A quick read. Enjoyable.

Like most of J.A. Jance's books, it was a good read, albeit short, but then a novella is! Kal7

    Huge J.P. Beaumont Fan

I liked reading about his past history on the job. I hope Jance does not retire him...EVER.

    Good but not great

This was too short. It was more of a short story than a novel. However, if you have not read all of the Beaumont series, this gives you some history on Beau.

    Jace&Buckshot

Two absolutely gorgeous horse breezed in, one a buckskin with black mane and tail. Darker socks, and black fading mazzle. The other a beautiful chestnut with white socks, black tail and mane and a white star. The tan one was Buckshot, a beautiful purebred Racking Horse, he was a prize to be owned with his energetic spirit and noble stance. The othe is Jace a very tall one, his breed is a purebred Arabian. Both males.

Buckshot built for dressage and Jace built for jumping.
