Slower than Slow
I tried. I really tried to read this entire story but just kept getting bogged down in boring details...where was the romance? Heck, where was the scandal?

Better than the last..much much

True to its name, this second installment for The League of Second Sons series is full of scandal, family entanglement, romance with steamy scenes, and suspense. Ms. Carr has outdone herself as this book is so much better than the last!
Lady Boudicea Vaughn is the marriageable daughter of the Duke of Lochmaben, also Lord Leonidas little sister. This girl is not the black sheep of the family by far, but definitely a black sheep of their society. She is always going against the rules, and intentionally or not, her reputation is always in question. She will find herself in a situation where her purity will be at risk to the point of no return. And that‘s where our Hero comes in, the famous Rake of London.
Gareth Sandison is the second son of the Earl of Roxwell, member of the League, and childhood friends with Lord Leonidas, which complicates things. Now, this guy is “..a rake known for dallying with other men’s wives…”, he was a flirt, a wanderer living the life of a bachelor. However, when the responsibility of taking care of Leo’s little sister came up, he definitely came through, in more ways then one.
They have known each other since they were kids and always had feelings for each other. Knowing it will never be, Garreth and Beau avoided each other but a situation will arise where their attraction cannot be ignored. The love scenes were fairly hot and take note, there is very thorough instruction of how-to-do a Hand Job included.
Their coming together was as predictable as the Guy Next Door story, but do not be fooled. This book has twists and turns that are unexpected and left me holding my breath.
Ms. Carr was able to deliver an action packed story, one suspense after the next. She managed to include the Duke, the Earl, few members of the League, other members of their family and of course the villains of the story. And they were all infuriatingly annoying but added intensity to the story. I enjoyed this book beyond my expectations and cannot wait to find out what book 3 entails.

Good Book
I liked Gareth and Beau together and was looking forward to their story after the previous book. Her brother is a little over the top but both of them have nursed a tendre for the other for a long time. It is only when fate throws them together that they are able to finally do something about it. The writing is good, the action is pretty fast-paced and I did enjoy reading the book.

an enjoyable Georgian romance
In 1784 as the spare Gareth Sandison belongs to the secret League of Second Sons. He does not mind playing second fiddle except he knows his station is far below the one woman he adores, his best friend's sister, Boudicea "Beau" Vaughn. Unbeknownst to Gareth who has become a notorious rake, Lady Beau misses him since he stopped teasing her.
When Lady Beau steps out of the Pall Mall circulating library, Mr. Nowlin grabs her and tosses her inside his coach. He plans to take his victim to Gretna Green. She expects her father and brothers to rescue her. Gareth stops at an inn and notices Beau eloping. Unable to stop himself he gives chase. He rescues Beau from her irate kidnapper. They flee the angry Nowlin and his apparent allies over the next few days before reaching her family. Gareth proposes as he knows his beloved has been compromised and she accepts though she distrusts the motives of the man she loves. She agrees to a marriage of convenience while he is accused of siring a child Jamie.
Ripe for Scandal is an enjoyable Georgian romance starring a couple who love but seem to be drifting further apart as outsiders take advantage of the mistrust between the protagonists. With an intelligent marriage of (in) convenience plot, the second League of Second Sons (see Ripe for Pleasure) is a fabulous tale as love may not be enough for this couple.
