I am from SE in DC, and reading about this character freaking out over regular interactions only a mile and !/2 from where she lives is ridiculous. especially since she is supposed to have street smarts. The reason she is having a problem is because she is not obeying the laws of common courtesy. Specifically, speaking when you are spoken to. All she needs to do is give the minimum response, a small smile and look like she is in a hurry. She actually thinks not speaking is helping her, but it just marks her as a victim and enrages her supposed attackers. Classic behavior from repeat sexual abuse victims. I would imagine that she has carried on this behavior though out her time in this neighborhood and in DC and that is why she doesn't have the security of knowing any one in her neighborhood. DC is a southern town and especially when dealing with African American people the rules of southern conduct apply, and just like in the south when you don't apply them people are seriously offended, actually even much more than in the south. This girl would have been much more believable if she had just come off the bus from the mid-west somewhere or was from a middle class or wealthy family where she had never even seen a project, dilapidated neighborhood or a black person before. Was this review helpful? Very entertaining. If you like fantasy/romance this is a great read. Very interesting characters and a little twist on the typical fantasy "types". Looking forward to the next novel. Most impressive copy editing--congratulations to this indie writer. Not everyone is so careful. If the series keeps going as well as it is, I will likely upgrade to 5 stars. 4 stars is, "I really liked it and would be happy to read it again." 5 stars is, "This book is going into my library to read over and over again."Was this review helpful? Hooray and huzzah for another action-packed, romantic installment in Kait Nolan's Mirus series! Ian and Marley are my favorite Mirus couple yet -- and that's saying something, as Nolan is superb at crafting dynamic, sexy couples you can't help but cheer for. Loved this book! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
