    more from this reviewer

Very highly recommended. The best Arthurian legend interpretation I've read.

This interpretation of the Arthurian legend is the best I've ever read. More grounded in reality than The Once and Future King and certainly more historically accurate. The relationships between Arthur and Morgan, Arthur and Guinevere, et al are throughly believable and make it easier to relate to the various characters. If you've never read Joan Wolf before, let this be your introduction to her very thorough historical research, her wonderful characters and her marvelous prose. Pick it up and read the first five pages, if you're not caught up in the story at that point, put it back. I'm willing to bet that you'll buy it instead of putting it back.

    I read over and over

This historical tale of the once and mighty king 'Arthur' and his fight for his kingdom while being torn from the one he loves more then life itself. I have read this book over and over again it should be reprinted I fell in love with every character and felt to be so much a part of the action that I thought I was there. NOT your typical 'romance' novel it the kind of love and drama that every human being longs for and can appreciate. A fantastic book and

One of my favorite novels of all time!

I have read this book and the sequels over & over since they were originally published. "Road to Avalon" is not your typical Arthurian tale--it reads like a serious historical novel with characters rich in human frailties and strengths. Each character, good and bad, is real and human and not fairytale-like--they are believable and fascinating. Her political knowledge of the time is impressive. Do not let Joan Wolf's less "serious" historical novels fool you -- she is an incredible writer with insight and imagination and knowledge. I have waited for a long time, with no satisfaction, for her to write another series as rich and wonderful as "Road to Avalon."
