Great book!!!
I saw the movie years ago and remember feeling deeply touched by the story, and now that I have been reading the book, again I have this same feeling. Yes, its a work of fiction, but it very well could have happened, and most likely did in some form. This is one of the best works of religious fiction (or any fiction) I have ever read, an enduring classic, no doubt as moving today as it was when it was first published in 1942.

Stimulation for the Mind and Soul
I went to great lengths to find this book, and my efforts were greatly rewarded. Unable to put it down I spent every minute of my free time reading this book. Never before have I read a novel with such compelling characters and thought provoking theological ideas. I found myself thinking of the characters throughout the day as if they were real enough for me to actually care about them. This is a magnificent portrayal of what Christianity at its best should be. Buy, read it and pass it on!

A Story With A Lasting Impact...
I had read this book when I was fifteen, and now, years later, I've been scouring bookstores to find a copy to purchase. It all started with the movie of the same name and a younger me felt compelled to read the book. An old library copy was I could come by. I remembered that I couldn't put it down and it greatly encouraged me in my own faith. That I've remembered it close to fifteen years later has to say something for this unforgettable tale. I'm pleased to see it in print and quite eager to begin my second perusal.

Experience the Power of Jesus Christ
This may be the most profound book I've ever read. It weaves fictional characters in with the historical companions of Christ and brings the New Testament alive. You will walk the streets of Rome with Tribunes and Senators; explore Galillee with soldiers, slaves and Jews. You will converse with Tiberius Caesar. You will shed tears at the crucifixion of Christ. You will meet Peter, Paul and Stephen. You will be swept into the very life and times of Jesus Christ and His early Church. The theology of this book is its true genious. Like no other book I have ever read it describes in slow and tranquil detail the process of salvation that transforms the life of an unbeliever into a disciple of Christ. All the theology one will ever need is contained in the pages of this wonderful, priceless book. ' When you are done you will have felt as if you were there, and you will not be the same.

Chillingly Real
This book is the best I have ever read. I am so glad that it is back in print since I believe that every Christian or Non-Christian should read it. As you read this book you are easily swept into the story and experience everything as if you were there. I think that this should be a must read for English in school because it is a classic.

Finally!
I love this movie (Richard Burton and Jean Simmons were awesome!) quite a bit, and so went looking extensively for the book! All of the ones I found were very pricy...
Thank you, Barnes and Noble and Read Books Ltd. for releasing a version that I can finally enjoy! I can't wait to read it!1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

best book i ever read
this book is more than i thought it would be. i couldn't put it down! i picked it out for my first quarter book to do a report on, it was excellant! i read it in almost every class i have, giving me a chance to explain a little to my fellow students who were wondering what i was reading. i'm a strong Christian in the public school, and i believe that The Robe let other people know i was. i'm now reading another of his books, The Big Fisherman, this one you gotta read too!

A Magnificent Work of Fiction!!!
I was extremely touched when I read this book. It did give me a better understanding of Jesus Christ and what he was trying to teach. It made me feel stronger about being a Christian. I never realized how hard it was to spread the faith of Christianity to the world when people were torchered just by speaking Christ's name. Ever since I picked it up I haven't been able to put it down until I had read the whole thing. It was absolutely inspiring to a point I can't describe. You will never read a better book.

IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED
I'VE JUST FINISHED WHAT IS NOW ONE OF MY TOP TEN FAVORITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME. WHAT EVER BECAME OF THE SOLDIERS WHO PUT CHRIST TO DEATH? HOW DID THE EARLY CHRISTIAN CHURCH FAIRE? WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO OUR SAVIOURS ROBES? HOW WAS EARLY MISSIONARY WORK DONE? HOW DID THE GOSPEL SPREAD? THIS STORY, WHILE FICTIONAL COULD HAVE HAPPENED, JUST THIS WAY. IN THE EARLY CHURCH MANY OF THE SAINTS DIED FOR THEIR TESTIMONY OF CHRIST, LET US IN THE LATTER-DAYS LIVE FOR CHRIST.

A thoughtful tale that will increase your faith
It is amazing to read and feel as if you are transformed into another time and place. This book is for believers as well as non-believers. We all struggle with understanding and faith at times, and this book shows how the power of Jesus can transform one person's life, even without knowing it. Through his experiences with 'The Robe' Marcellus has an encounter he was never would have dreamed of! This is a thought provoking and it issuses a challenge to us all. I recommend this book to believers of all ages, I even recommended it to a student of mine last year, and it touched his life as much as it had mine!

It made me be more public with my Christianity, and tell others of what God has to offer.
I have not finished the book yet, I have about 50 more pages to read, but I absolutely love this book! I am a devoted Christian, and I checked this book out from the library only because it was at a grade level that i could read for my assighned reading for that six weeks at school. I only had to read 300 pages of it to get credit. But I couldn't stop right there! I had to find out about how Marcellus and Demetrius would end up! This book is the best book I have ever read and I encourage all my friends to read it, if they are up to the 500+ page challenge!

Dust off a classic
Despite its age and 2000-year-old timeline, The Robe is a relevant, non-preachy epic which is easy to read, yet rich in atmosphere and character.
