Monk introduces a different perspective on the great man. Brilliant in construction and subject, sensitive in tone; much needed, if not entirely expected.

Excellent history of Oppenheimer.
A very interesting history of not only Oppenheimer but also of the evolution of modern atomic theory. Intertwined in the biography of Oppenheimer is the history of the atom. From the discovery of the electron by Thompson through quantum electrodynamics all of the major contributors are introduced with the exception of Stephen Weinberg. Having at least a minimal background in physics is helpful to the reader but the book is very readable for the those with no physics knowledge. The author adds small explanations of various topics to help the reader that is unfamiliar with those to understand their importance. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
