    Shame on Darth Vader

The book is not out so you can't review it yet. That is despicable and unfair to the author and other readers.

    This book is good.

This book is very well written and very interesting. I don't understand why it has received such a backlash in media reviews. It seems to me that the negative reviews may have more to do with the relationship between Joe McGinniss and the media rather than the contents of the book.

    Riveting, Horrifying, Hilarious!

Forget all the fuss and buy this book for what it reveals about a really, um, unique politician/celebrity (what's the diff these days?) from a truly unique state. The way McGinniss tells the story of HER rise, along with HIS adventures as he researches her is just so entertaining. Make no mistake--she is one scary lady, especially her extreme religious beliefs. Why isn't anyone talking about that? Or her abuses of power as mayor and governor?

Most of all though, this book is just so cleverly constructed and written--as much fun as a delicious novel.

Good book, no matter what reviewers and Palin-bots say

McGinniss has been unfairly excoriated for writing this book. It appears that, either the reviewers are Palin-bots or resent the completely justified accusation at the end of the book that journalists have not been doing their job. They haven't. The issue about unnamed sources is due to the fact that all of Palin's family and friends were ordered not to talk to him. How does Palin think anyone can get a balanced story if you cut off many of the potential sources? Many others declined to say anything or would only talk under condition of anonymity due to the unreasoning and unending vengefulness of the Palins. McGinniss states this very clearly in the book. Perhaps the reviewers didn't read the whole thing. Still, several people did talk to him for attribution so there are some who can't be bullied by the almighty Palins. While nothing out there, including this book will change anyone's mind about this clown in high heels (great description!), it's important to know as much as possible about someone who has represented herself as something she isn't and seems to aspire to a significant place on the national political stage. Like it or not, she is part of the national scene, though as often in the entertainment section as anywhere else. False accusations and misinformation promulgated by her supporters show just how pathetic this whole show is. DON'T LISTEN TO THE PALIN-BOTS! Read the book and decide for yourself.

    Just gossip

    a_reader25,
The media is probably giving the book such bad reviews because it's come to light that Joe can't provide proof for any of his claims and they want to distance themselves from any fallout. The book itself is nothing more than a gossip version of a political attack against someone the author doesn't like, and someone he publicly announced he was moving near for the express purpose of writing an negative book about.

If you don't like Palin you'll probably enjoy the attacks, but keep in mind that the accusations in this book are really unsubstantiated gossip. It's better to take a stand on stated policy issues rather than be embarrassed later when your source is exposed and people realize you've just been spreading gossip.

The Rogue reveals the true Palin

I read this book hoping for a reason to like Palin. McGinniss has written a credible and insightful book about a woman who has no place in politics. Her antics as Mayor and Governor tell the story; her upbringing explains how she treats people especially if she can't get anything from them. I can't figure out what McCain was thinking when he selected her; one of the biggest blunders of all time. Palin won't run for President because she would have to deflect past unethical behavior while feeling the heat from a direct spotlight. She prefers to spend her time thinking of herself and banking as much money as possible. I was exhausted by her behavior and it's clear many of the residents of Alaska feel much the same way.

    Excellent book-thought provoking and humorous

A terrific book and a real eye opener. After reading I purchased a few more copies to give as gifts. Thank you Mr. McGinniss

    save your money

A total waste of paper. While it tried to expose personalities it also became a diary of the author's personal experiences with friends. IE visits from wife, earlier memories of visits to Alaska.
Not up to his past writings.

    Dirt Bag Book

I do not like books that just spin dirt --- be they anti Clinton, Bush, Obama or Palin. A writer can always find someone to say negative things and then just report the negative --- avoiding a balanced approach. This book is negative to the extreme, in the same manner as several books written about Obama.

Primarily a repeat of known characteristics of Palin

After I read the book, I asked myself "why?". I don't agree with Palin and I am puzzled about her unwarranted personal appeal but yet, I was also drawn into purchasing this book. Hopefully, Palin will be a passing fancy for the media and will disappear into the obscurity of her life before McCain unleashed her on us all.
