    The Rose Legacy

Carina Maria DiGratia is headed to paradise. At least she thinks she is. Contrary to the glowing advertisement that draws her there, Crystal, Colorado, is really a rough mining town. Carina flees her home in Sonoma, CA with a broken heart, convinced that her beloved Flavio will come after her. But he doesn't, and that's not the only surprise that awaits Carina.
Her journey to Crystal includes watching her belongings sail over a cliff at the hand of the mysterious Quillan Shepard, and upon arrival, she realizes that she's been cheated out of the home she purchased. Carina's determined to forge ahead, and with the help of lawyer Berkley Beck, it seems she is on her way. But is she?
Carina cannot understand why, but Quillan's mysterious past intriques her. Beck, although politely keeping his distance, is clearly interested in her. Will his interest be enough to overcome her love for Flavio? Or will she return to Sonoma? Unwillingly, Carina becomes a pawn in the town's corruption. Who can she trust, Beck or Shepard?
Heitzmann is a good story teller, and her characters come to life within the pages of The Rose Legacy. If you like action, mystery, love - it's all there. I was transported to the rough and dusty mining town from page one.

I was a bit disappointed with the ending. While the main plot comes to a close, there are unresolved issues for Carina that are probably addressed in Book Two. I prefer a stand alone book, but that's just me. Despite my preferences, Heitzmann gets my vote as a wonderful author.

    review of Rose Legacy

Bethany House publishers provided me with a copy of The Rose Legacy by Kristen Heitzmann. In return for this book, I get to blog about my opinion of it. When I accepted this book, I had already read it. This in fact, was the first book by Kristen Heitzmann that I read. I enjoyed it so much several years ago that I requested the librarian order more books by this author. I have also read more of this series and recommend them all for the complete story.
Reading it again was just as enjoyable as the first time. This is a story of a young woman who leaves home for a new life, only to have more hopes crushed by lies. This is set in Colorado during the gold rush. It is a lesson about trust as Carina faces the difficulties in the mining town. Reading of her struggles and how she works through them, as well as the colorful character she meets is entertaining.
Quotations of Rose, the Mother of one of the characters, begin each chapter and give a glimpse into the theme. Other characters like the elderly miner Cain share interesting outlooks mixed into the dialog. For example: (quote from pg. 290) "Once people get it into their heads one way, it was sorely difficult to get it out. Even if there weren't one piece of truth to it." There is another story within this one of a man with a troubled past, facing life but hiding his history.

    Fantastic! Compelling! Ecxiting!

Rose Legacy is my all time favorite. I mean, I was so involved couldn't put it down, and read it in 3 days. Carina's growth in this story really gives you a sense of a bond with her, and with a plot that is constantly thickening, its impossible to want to set the novel aside. The love story is so sweet, but not corny or too perfect to be true for the circumstances. You can't just stop after reading this story you must finnish all three in the series.

    Couldn't put it down!

I have not read this author before but the cover enticed me. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. It has a good message without being preachy. The characters are fantastic. I would recommmend this book, especially if you like historical fiction. The era and the decription of the town and lifestyle was really interesting. I am going to buy book 2 today!

    Another Excellent Kristen Heitzmann Book

I recieved this book for Christmas. I read it right away and absolutely loved it. The heroine was smart and determined (do I need to mention also Italian =). Although the end of the story is quite a cliff hanger that is what makes me so determined to read the next book in that series. It keeps the reader wanting more. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one. I recommend this book to anyone.
