A rare look - a must for Frazetta fans
As the title suggests, the book contains reproductions of some of the "rough work" prototypes for some of Frazetta's more famous oils and representative works from Frazetta's sketchbooks. There are some nice concept art pieces included that would otherwise have been lost to private collections. Personally, I enjoyed seeing the watercolor studies Frazetta made prior to painting the oils. Here one can see the mastery gained via years of brush work as an illustrator.
The book includes a short forward with some nice anecdotal stories from Frazetta's contemporaries and collectors. I especially loved reading the one about the "Mickey Mouse" water color set.
Since it isn't easy to find Frazetta in galleries this is a nice way for fans to gain a different perspective, and for art students to learn how Frazetta works.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.
