Ted Conover gives a great overview of how roads affect how we live, for better or worse. He travels to 6 less developed areas of the world(1 S. America,1 Middle East, 2 Africa, 2 Asia) to look at how roads changed and are changing the way people live their lives. He also gives some short historical backround on the road and its effects on the enviroment, socio-economics, and politics. The stories are entertaining, fast paced and insightful with some humor and a few personal observations. I would think this could be a good summer book for anyone looking to get away from reading the regular novel or detective story on the beach. By the way, what a great job-travelling the world, meeting people, then writing a book about it.
