The Cat Who Tamed Horses ~ Chapter 1

Horsekit lay outside of the nursery, watching a fly buzz lazily. He felt sleepy on the hot day. His mother had broke her leg due to a fall, his sister Brookkit was talking with a warrior, Dragonkit, Strykekit, Zionkit, and Coyotekit were sleeping, so there was nothing to do. He watched as Flightpath and Flowernose padded past him, talking.
He got an idea. He padded to his sister. "Race you to the medicence den." Brookkit smiled and crouched. "Get set-go!" Brookit and Horsekit both dashed off, legs pumping, tails streaming. It was a blur, with Horsekit in the lead when they bumped into Crystalpaw's leg.
Horsekit blushed. Crystalpa only smiled and purred. "You two are as fast as horses!" She padded off. His sister stared. "What are horses?" Horsekit shrugged. He had been named after them, but had no clue what they were or what they looked like. Brookkit padded to Mouseheart, a slender brown shecat. "What's a horse?" She mewed timidly.
Mouseheart mewed, "Ask Lilywolf. I want to sleep." Brookkit nodded and padded to Horsekit. "Let's ask Lilywolf." The deputy of HorseClan lay down, watching the clan. Brookkit ran up to her and mewed nervously, "Lilywolf, what is a horse?" Lilywolf glanced down suddenly. She smiled. "An animal. Bigger than you. Huge." Horsekit's eyes windend.
He liked the sound of that. "They have silky short haired coats and hair for their tail." Lilywolf continued. "And hard bony paws that dont look like paws." Horsekit was confused. "They also have long hair near their heads, and long ears. They are fast and strong. Dangerous too. They can kill a cat. They aren't vicous and willing to kill. Horses are pretty strong and super fast."
Horsekit was dissapionted. They didn't sound right. He liked the fast, strong, and big part but nothing else. Something nudged his shoulder. He looked up. It was Flightpath. "Your mother is ok." He mewed. "Leg healed." His mother padded out of the medicence den and spotted him. "Horsekit! Brookkit!" Horsekit and Brookkit ran to her.
She purred. "Lilywolf told us about horses." Brookkit mewed shyly. Their mother purred again. "Thank you. By the way, my kits are six moons. Could you tell Goldenstar?" Lilywolf nodded and padded away with a smile. Horsekit grinned. "Brookkit! We are going to be apprintences today!"

    Whispershade

The dark tabby creeps through the shadows, pupils wide so her eyes won't give her away. While in the shadow of a pine tree, she hears a rustle and looks up to see a blackbird grooming its feathers. While not scrawny, it doesn't have much meat on it, but as it's the only prey in sight, Whispershade leaps onto the lowest branch, careful not to make too much noise as she weaves her way up through the branches. Once she's just below it, though, it hears her and starts to take off. She leaps up, just catching its foot and dragging it back down as she also falls back to the ground rather ungracefully. On the ground, she gets up, dizzy, and sees that the fall broke the bird's neck. 'It should have been my teeth that killed it, not a mousebrained slip!' she thinks angrily as she picks it up. 'I hope no one saw that. That was probably the best catch you've ever made.'

    Shimmerbreeze

She pads quietly over the leaves on the ground, following the smell of rabbit. Finally, she sees it. She creeps up behind it and jumps. The rabbit, startled by the commotion, is about to take off runing when Shimmerbreeze lands on it, sinking her claws into its neck. It squeaks once before going limp. "Not my best catch," she thinks, already sniffibg the air again.

    Large prey...

A lumbering vole scavenged through the underbush surrounding his murky den, unaware of his surroundings...
