    well paced action packed

I finished this book last night and I have to say that i really enjoyed it. The life of Jon Sable is not pretty but the adventures that he gets into are very thrilling. This book has intense action with heavy (but nessacery) violence. The author has an eye for combat violenc and hunting. If action packed novels are your thing full of bad guys that meet very violent ends and an imortal hero that is worthy of a sequel then SABLE is the book to read. highly recomended!!!

    Home again!

Jon Sable Freelance was one of the first comic series I read that ever made me cry. Yes, that's right. A comic made me cry. Creator/author/artist Mike Grell put a lot of love and thought into the Sable character, and for years it showed in his work. It was a sad day for comic collectors when the series was cancelled. But now Grell brings his character back in a new medium, as he takes his shot (no pun intended) at prose writing. For a first novel, Grell does an excellent job. Having been a fan of the comic, and of Mr. Grell's artwork, I was already aware of Jon's origin, so there weren't a whole lot of surprises. For new readers, it ought to pack a powerful punch. While Sable is basically an action/adventure series, it's the depth of the character that really makes this book great. I recommend the book to all, but recommend even more that you seek out back issues of the original comic series, as Grell's artwork adds a dimension and depth that a prose novel just can't. (That's the wonderful thing about comics, the combination of words and art create a unique artform that allows creaters to really explore a character.) Read this book, then read the comic! And then thank Mike for creating such a great character before chaining him to the drawing table for more!

    A great book!

Finished Sable last weekend, and I enjoyed it a great deal¿¿it was a fun read, and definitely worth picking up. Grell possesses an excellent eye for detail¿Sable's filled with subtle, yet immediately recognizable elements that pull the reader headlong into the incredibly vivid world of Jon Sable. The book's got some amazing action sequences, and it's full of that write-what-you-know sense of realism. By delving into Sable's character (and his past), Grell's given the book a multifaceted scope, distinguishing it from typical male-oriented adventure novels and widening its appeal far beyond the existing fans of Jon Sable: Freelance. I wholeheartedly look forward to reading the next one.

    A Great Character

Jon Sable is one of the best modern adventure characters you'll ever run across. Hands down. Eat your heart out, James Bond.
