Forgetfulness & The Dead are animated, too.

Love this one....I also found a couple free animated Collins poems online, too - The Dead and Forgetfulness. Definitely check them out. If you go to video.google.com and search for Billy Collins you'll see them. Pretty cool animation and it's Billy himself reading. I think they're on youtube.com, too.

    Well above the norm

Too many modern poets have abandoned the integrity of the art for a kind of lackluster, populist prose with poetic form. Billy Collins is above the riff raff, and solidly defends his right to have been the Poet Laureate with his superior wordsmanship and craft.

    My kind of poetry

The poems in this book intrigued me because of their titles, and the poems, themselves, did not let me down. When read aloud, some even give me goosebumps! Another reviewer asked, 'THIS is poetry?' Just as there are fictional authors to fit every person's literary tastes, there are poets for all sorts of lovers of poetry! That reviewer has every right to NOT like Collins's work, but yes, it IS still poetry--and I really like it!

    Great Poetry or Great Life

I read this because the poet Timothy Michael Earwood recommended it. I can see why. The subject matter of Billy Collins' is very similar to Timothy's.

    a good use of humor

i wasn't exactly sure what to expect from collins. the man seems to inspire people to be either rabid supporters or rabid haters of his work. his selected poems is a strong selection from his work and some good new poems. after reading this collection, i can tell you his work is good. he'll never be considered one of the most important poets, and not all of his poems are strong. but he has a great use of humor, and there are several times i found myself laughing out loud. collins is definitely a poet worth reading.
